ITEC 2017 Welcomes 2,238 Unique Attendees With A Record 97% Stating They Would Recommend The Event

ITEC 2017 proved once again to be the key event for the training and simulation community. For the first time in the event’s history, ITEC was held in Rotterdam and enjoyed strong home nation support with Major General Martin Wijnen, Deputy Commander - Royal Netherlands Army joining the opening plenary. Rusmat Ahmed of Bohemia Interactive commented "ITEC 2017 at Rotterdam was really marked by the high quality of the military VIP delegates to our booth, and the military and MOD subject matter experts who visited. We had a consistently high buzz of activity at our booth, helped by a great venue and the quality of the behind the scenes organisation."

The opening session also featured Dr Tom Killion, Chief Scientist - North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and Ms Chérie Smith, Deputy Program Executive Officer, PEO STRI - United States Army providing a wealth of knowledge across education, training and simulation. The overarching theme of ITEC 2017 reflected the host nation’s focus on partnership and collaboration and the theme of the ‘Triple Helix’ was reflected both in the content and on the show floor with Dutch military, industry and researchers all participating.

ITEC 2017 attracted 2,238 unique attendees, including 636 military guests and 107 VIP delegations. This year a record 97% of visitors surveyed commented they would recommend ITEC to a colleague in the industry and 86% of visitors stated that ITEC is important to attend for their business, so confirming the show’s reputation as the premier training and simulation event in Europe. This feeling was echoed across the exhibition floor, with Ralph Rietveld – Sim Innovations saying “We very much enjoyed our first ITEC in Rotterdam and we're looking forward to ITEC 2018 in Stuttgart Germany”.

The 2017 conference welcomed 1,072 delegates and featured the first ever Advanced Engineering Conference which was a new theme dedicated solely to the impact of advanced engineering from the training and simulation perspective. This day-long conference featured speakers from across Europe and North America and gave attendees new insights in areas such as Industry 4.0, Extensible Modelling Framework and using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

This year’s event also included the second edition of The F-35 Conference, which welcomed a substantial audience to hear presentations from senior military and industry leaders about the cultural impact of training, integration and interoperability within the fifth generation fighter framework. The conference opened with keynote presenter Air Commodore Robert Adang, Deputy Director, European Air Group/ Royal Netherlands Air Force discussing Interoperability in Future Combined Air Operations.

Event Director Daniel Mortimer commented, “ITEC 2017 was another successful event for the training and simulation community. For the first time, ITEC was held in the port city of Rotterdam and it attracted industry, military and academia from 48 nations across the globe. The overarching theme of ITEC 2017 reflected the hosts nations focus on partnership and collaboration. The theme of the ‘Triple Helix’ was reflected both in the conference and on the show floor with Dutch military, industry and research all participating. ”

ITEC 2018 will see the event return to Germany in a new city, Stuttgart from 15-17 May. The response from industry for ITEC 2018 has been overwhelming, with over 75% of the show floor booked on site.
