Network Enabled Capability Technology 2017 - 11/11/2016

Irish Defence Forces Assistant Chief of Staff joins speaker lineup for Network Enabled Capability Technology 2017

Brigadier General Peter O’Halloran to speak about developing future capabilities in Rome in February

As nations continue to improve and implement NEC capabilities across their armed forces, SMi Group has confirmed that Irish Defence Forces Assistant Chief of Staff Brigadier General Peter O’Halloran will be speaking at its launch conference on Network Enabled Capability Technology.

The event will take place on the 1st and 2nd of February in Rome, with aims to enable participants to help shape, develop and deliver digitization of information, equipment and maximize operational and common logistics platforms throughout the land domain.

Against this backdrop, Brigadier General O’Hallinan will lead a key presentation on “Developing the Future Capabilities of the Army through Implementation of Network Enabled Capability Technology”. Highlights of his talk include:

  • increasing versatility and information for ground operations through the digitization of the battlefield;
  • optimizing the future land combat vehicles by producing new legacy assets; and
  • improving Command and Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence and network capabilities.

Brigadier General O'Halloran has 38 years’ service for the Irish Defence Forces with a wide range of appointments at the tactical, operational and strategic levels. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Chief of Staff, he held position as Director of Logistics and served as Director of the Communications and Information Services Corps.

He joins a speaker lineup of high-level military officers from NATO, SHAPE, US EUCOM, Greece, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden; technical program directors from the UK Ministry of Defence; and key industry players including Radionor. The panel will deliberate how various network enabled capability programmes can impact operational effectiveness and help optimise the future of tactical warfare. In addition, programme managers will also discuss requirements and updates for key programmes.

The conference will also explore updates of the Italian Army’s Forza NEC programme as its "Concept Developing & Experimentation" phase nears completion in 2020. Participants can expect presentations from esteemed Commander of the Italian Army Training and Doctrine Command, Lieutenant General Giorgio Battisti, as well as high-level senior representatives from the Italian Armed Forces.

A detailed agenda including a full list of speakers and their respective topics can be viewed on the event website.
