Live Twitter chat to explore social media integration in military activities

SMi Group, SHRM and NATO Shape to lead live Twitter chat to discuss Social Media within the Defence & Military Sector.

Global events production company SMi Group will be hosting a live Twitter chat on Thursday, 25 August 2016 at 3PM GMT+1. The interactive debate is set in the run-up to the 5th annual conference on Social Media within the Defence & Military Sector, which will take place on 14 & 15 November 2016 in Central London.

Lieutenant Colonel (ret’d) Andrew Morton, Director of Social Engagement at SHRM and Colonel Eric Bloom, Chief of NATO SHAPE Public Affairs Office, will be will be co-chairing the live Twitter chat. Both Lt. Col Morton and Col Bloom will also be speaking at the conference in November.

The interactive session aims to gather military forces and defence industry leaders to discuss, debate, and explore the opportunities and risks in further incorporating social media into the fabric of military activities. Issues to be addressed include the difference between operational awareness from operational security, the argument of civil liberty versus security, the current state and reliability of intelligence gathering and the impacts of social media use during mission operations.
